Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
