Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Fans can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
